At Portland Web Innovators last night, we announced the formation of a new user group called Mobile Portland.

The idea for Mobile Portland came from our desire to have a place to share what we’re learning and collaborate with other mobile developers. The idea took hold when during a conversation with Jon Maroney of Free Range Communications after the recent PAF panel on mobile marketing.

In addition to Free Range, early enthusiastic collaborators for a local mobile user group include individuals from eROI, GoLife Mobile and bBoing (a.k.a., Summit Projects). We’re pleased that we’ve got a group of people interested in making this happen.

It seems like the last thing Portland needs is yet another user group meeting. However, mobile development has numerous unique challenges. These challenges deserve their own attention and focus.

We’re still working out logistics on how Mobile Portland will work. If you’re interested, go to mobileportland.com to be notified about our first meeting.

Jason will be speaking at the Portland Web Innovators meeting on February 13th, 7 pm on Mobile Web and how to prepare for the upcoming mobile tsunami.

We got keys to our office late Thursday afternoon, and by the end of the weekend, the office was together and ready to go. That’s a lot of painting and hauling and lifting and drilling!

We’re settled in now, and getting some work done. Our neighbors are very friendly, and our view expansive. We’re a happy bunch of Clouds.

We get our keys to our new office tomorrow, and boy are we excited! I have a feeling that this weekend is going to play out like a movie montage from a bad 80’s flick: mad scenes of painting and hammering and organizing, ending in perfection, of course, after lots of cross-fades and corny music.

Our new digs are in the Olympic Mills Commerce Center (formerly the B&O Building), which is being renovated into green-friendly spaces catering to creative and intriguing tenants. We’ll be across the hall from a bookbinder and an acupuncturist. On the fourth floor–of course!
